DID YOU KNOW???

  • That the Minutes of Waco Lodge for September 10, 1864, record a Resolution adopted, that "dues and fees" would be accepted in Confederate currency, but credited at only 10 cents on the dollar!!!
  • That when Brother J. W. Speight became the 4th Worshipful Master of our lodge in 1854, he was a Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Mississippi. He also was Worshipful Master of our lodge sixteen different years???
  • That J.H. Gurley Lodge No. 337, was named after a deceased charter member of our lodge!!!
  • That although our lodge was first organized early in February, 1851, the original dispensation setting us to work was issued by the Grand Lodge on August 1851. Our charter was granted later, on January 23, 1852.
  • That the first of the musical Master Mason's Degrees, for which Waco Lodge became famous over 75 years ago, was conferred on November 24, 1914. The candidate was Judge Jake Tirey.
  • That 60 years ago the land upon which our Temple is located, was part of the landing-field for Waco's Municipal Airport????
  • That in the Masonic year 1920-1921, Waco Lodge raised 186 new Master Masons, an average of 15.5 per month!!!!
  • That two of our current officers are Past Masters of other Lodges??? Secretary-Stanley C. Patrick - Pearland Lodge 1384, 1977-1978 and Tiler-Michael W. Burney-Gatesville Lodge No. 197, 1993-1994.
  • Bro. W.F. "Bill" Quebe, was Secretary of our lodge from 1915-1962, except for the years 1919-1922 when he served as J.W., S.W. and W.M., respectively!!
  • At our June 2001 stated meeting, the lodge adopted a Resolution adding the office of Marshal to the list of officers. Past Master, Charles M. McChesney is the first person to hold that office.
  • The following Lodges were chartered at the same time as Waco Lodge No. 92: Terrell No. 83, Alto; New Salem No. 87, New Salem; San Gabriel No. 89, Georgetown; Waxahachie No. 90, Waxahachie; Goliad No. 94, Goliad; Pine Hill No. 95, Henderson; Canton No. 98, Lavaca No. 36, Port Lavaca.
  • There are only 41 Lodges in Texas older that Waco Lodge.
